Page list on : hard disk recovery.

If you experienced a hard drive crash, the first step is to immediately stop using the equipment. Any changes that you make can cause data recovery to become more difficultor impossible.  Ideally, restoring from a backup is the best solution, but if your backup is old, incomplete, or nonexistent, you will need toconsider steps for hard disk recovery.

Using a data recovery program, such as one that comes with your computer, can be risky.  Datarecovery programs can write over your original data, and if your filesare especially important, you do not want to put them at risk by usingsuch a program with a physically failing drive.  For criticial data, the best next step is to contact a data recovery firm

However, simple data recovery programscan be useful if the drive is functioning properly, but you have accidentallydeleted or overwritten files.  Such scenarios typically do not requirea specialist to resolve, but make sure that the program supports the typeof disk you are trying to recover (such as NTFS, FAT32, etc.).  Pleasenote that there is a difference between using a restore disk and recoveringyour data.  Restore disks will typically set your computer tofactory defaults and will delete the programs you have installed and anydata you have stored.  It can be challenging to distinguish one levelof hard drive recovery product from another, as lower end products oftentimesclaim to produce the same recovery results as the more potent utilitiescan.  However, if the file system has been altered they are unableto produce any results.

When looking for a data recoveryfirm, make sure that the company offers hard disk data recovery anddata forensics.  While many computer repair companies or othertechnology service companies may offer data recovery services, but findinga specialist is best for recovering mission-critical data.  Afterall, taking truly critical data to a company that generally just providessoftware installation and virus clean-up may put your data at risk. However, finding a data recovery specialist may require shipping your harddrive out of the area rather than using a local business.  The bestway to evaluate the company is to call and ask about their services andexperience. Make sure that the company is confident that they can handleyour scenario, including the specific file types that your business uses.

If you have not yet experienced acrash, you may still be at risk.  You should also be wary of potentialsigns of a failing hard drive, such as strange noises or errors duringfile transfers.  If you suspect that the physical drive is failing, continuing to use it until it has completely failed puts your data furtherat risk; it is best to immediately stop using suspect equipment until itcan be evaluated and backed up.
